Vanilla Doughnuts

I couldn't wait to make doughnuts again since I had such wonderful results the last time I made doughnuts I’ve seen several recipes for baked doughnuts floating around but I knew this recipe would be the next I would try. Vanilla doughnuts, smothered with a delicious powdered sugar glaze, and topped with sprinkles chosen by my donettes! As you can see, Gabi liked the fall themed sprinkles and the cinnamon sugar topping. Lexi went for pink sugar crystals. Either way you choose to decorate your doughnuts, these were pretty good. I think I'm doughnut crazy now!

Baked Vanilla Doughnuts with Vanilla Glaze
Made 6 doughnuts (recipe said 12)

Ingredients:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup milk
1/2 tsp white vinegar
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1 egg
4 tbsps butter, softened

For the Glaze:
2 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 cup powdered sugar

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350.  In a large bowl whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon; set aside. In a small saucepan bring together the milk, white vinegar, vanilla, egg, and butter.

Cook over medium-heat, stirring constantly with a whisk until the butter melts, about one minute. Remove from heat.  Add the milk mixture into the flour mixture; mix until combined.  Using a large tablespoon, spoon the doughnut mixture into an ungreased doughnut pan.

Bake for 12 to 14 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Remove and immediately invert the pan onto a cooling rack.  While the doughnuts are cooling, begin to work on the glaze.

For the Glaze:

Place all the ingredients in a small saucepan and cook over medium-heat, stirring constantly just until combined and no lumps appear. Set the saucepan over a bowl filled with hot water.

Dip the doughnuts into the glaze, one at a time, and set on a rack, glaze side up. I layed a piece of wax paper underneath my rack to catch the drips.

  1. Wow! Since I'm a relatively new reader, I had missed your last doughnut post. I'm so glad that you made doughnuts again. They are my weakness. Especially jelly filled and cinnamon. Great job with these. Sam

  2. Thanks for sharing this recipe, these doughnuts look delicious. I haven't tried making homemade doughnuts yet, and am excited to try it out. The ingredients look so simple too. I guess I was always just scared of failing to make them turn out right. I hate when recipes go wrong.

I like the fact that they are vanilla doughnuts, it means there are so many options for decoration!

  7. I love baked doughnuts - no fuss and, better yet, no frying! These little treats look great - It would be nice to have a warm vanilla doughnut right out of the oven, just so you can appreciate the perfect texture and flavour. They really don't have to be interrupted with fancy chocolate glazes or tons of sprinkles :) Thanks for showing us that!

  10. I've always wanted to make legit home-fried doughnuts but can't justify my house smelling like "fried" for days on end or the extra 500 situps I'll have to do in exercise penance haha. These looks like the good ol fashions - one of my faves. Gorgeous Jackie, just gorgeous.
